[Q] I am considering using CAT 5e Plugs installed on CAT
6 Cable. What kind of performance can I expect?
[A] By definition, the cable will still be rated as CAT 5e. This
does not mean that the performance will be the same as standard
CAT 5e, in fact it will most likely perform much better. (If
quality materials were used in the construction.)
Some
installers have posed the idea of using CAT 6 Cable with
CAT 5e Plugs, with the idea that they will save time and money
by using CAT 5e Plugs instead of CAT 6 Plugs.
The
problem with this is the fact that you will not have a certified
CAT 6 installation. It basically would be pointless to have
even used CAT 6 Cable in the first place.
Many
people are unaware that in order to have a Gigabit network,
all components used in the network have to be Gigabit rated.
This includes the Plugs used in all the Cable assemblies.
The
best practice is to make sure that you always match your raw
cable material with the correct rating of plug for the installation.
CAT
5 Cable Company provides CAT 5 and CAT 5e patch and crossover cables for all networking applications in
9 colors, and any custom length. Hand assembled and 100% tested
to ensure the finest quality.
