[Q] Is CAT 5 Patch Cable suitable for use in home theatre applications?

[A] Many new high-end home theatre systems are being produced now featuring "color coded" connections, easy assembly, and in many cases feature CAT 5 Patch Cable connections joining the devices.

CAT 5 Cable is not a bad choice for this application, as it is more than able to handle the power requirements for most of these systems. There will be some exceptions, of course.

It is considered best practice to study the power requirements very carefully before determining if CAT 5 will be able to handle the system you are assembling. We must assume that the manufacture of the audio and video equipment has done this already.
